A strong interview starts before you log in or walk through the door. Use this checklist to prepare for your next clinical role.

Before the interview

• Have your certification and license numbers ready, and check they are current.
• Update your resume with caseload sizes, settings (clinic, home, school, hospital) and populations you have worked with.
• Prepare two or three short examples: a challenging case, a time you trained or supervised someone, and a time you worked with a family or care team.
• Know your availability, preferred schedule and the pay range you are looking for.

Questions worth asking

• What does a typical week look like, and what is the expected caseload?
• How much supervision or clinical support will I have?
• How is non-billable time handled (documentation, parent training, meetings)?
• What does onboarding look like in the first 90 days?
• Is there support for continuing education or CEUs?

During the interview

Be specific. Instead of "I am good with families," describe what you did and what changed. Clinical leaders listen for how you think through a case, not just the outcome.

After the interview

Send a short thank-you note the same day. If you have not heard back within the timeline they gave you, a polite follow-up is appropriate. If you receive an offer, ask for it in writing and review caseload, schedule and pay before you accept.
